1. suppose : sup-,在下，-pos,放置，词源同position,propose.引申词义认为，假设等。
1. 【辨析】suppose/assume/guess/imagine
assume 表示“假定，猜想”解，含有较为强烈的武断成分，往往指一件尚未证实或尚存在意见分歧的事作为自己论断的基础。所以，后接名词从句时一般用陈述语气表示。
guess 作“猜”解时，不一定表示猜准，后接名词、代词或从句作宾语；当后面加介词 at 时，更带有“猜猜看”的意思。
suppose 其意义比较广泛，有时仅用于陈述自己的意见，相当于汉语的“猜想”，无确切的根据。所以，与 assume 相反，suppose 常接虚拟语气的宾语从句。
imagine 意思是“想象，以为”，后接名词、动名词或名词从句。
